Soft tissue mobilisations is the use of small oscillatory techniques applied to soft tissue.
The techniques can be performed on muscle, tendon or ligament. They are used when these structures are relaxed or under tension i.e. stretched or contracted. Soft tissue mobilisations can be applied after the first few days of injury and help to reduce inflammation and ensure scar tissue does not heal too short.
The technique can also be used in chronic conditions when the patient has had pain for a long period of time. In this case the technique is used when it is believed the patient’s pain is due to soft tissue which is tight. The technique can help improve the mobility between the overlying and adjacent connective tissue layer.
