Joint Mobilisations / Mobilisation techniques

These are small movements performed on a joint by a physiotherapist.

Joint mobilisations can be performed on peripheral joints such as ankles or wrists, or on the spinal joints in your neck or back. Joint mobilisations are graded I to V. Grades I and II are very gentle and not into joint resistance or stiffness. Grades III and IV are more forceful and are into resistance. Grade V is a manipulation where the joint can 'click' or 'crack'.

Joint mobilisations are used to increase joint range by decreasing joint stiffness. This results in less pain.
